All 18 AFL teams relocating to Melbourne
Victoria has become the home of AFL with all 18 teams relocating to the state as coronavirus outbreaks worsen elsewhere across the country. However, the Adelaide Crows and the Brisbane Lions are still planning to fly over to Adelaide for a game on Saturday before returning to the ‘COVID bubble’ in Melbourne. There has also been a big push to have regional areas like Ballarat and Bendigo involved in hosting games later in the season. The Victorian government has put a pause on a further easing of restrictions in Melbourne because of the outbreaks in other states which means the MCG and Marvel Stadium can still only have 25,000 spectators.

Wildfire Smoke and Intense Heat Create Large Cloud Formation in Kamloops, British Columbia
A wildfire in Kamloops, British Columbia, reached about 2,300 hectares (approximately 5,683 acres) on Tuesday, June 29, as hot weather and dry conditions exacerbated the blaze, officials said. On Tuesday, the Thompson-Nicola regional district government issued an evacuation for 150 homes. Six helicopters reported to the scene, with multiple shutting down due to overheated engines, according to fire officials. Footage filmed by Kamloops resident Nicole Lyons shows a large cloud formation caused by the fire’s smoke and a heat dome, according to reports. “There are no filters on any of them and the temperature was still 39 degrees Celsius at 9:30 pm,” Lyons told Storyful. “We had reached 46 degrees Celsius that day, our hottest on record after continually breaking heat records the previous three days.” Credit: Nicole Lyons via Storyful

Flying Car Completes Landmark Inter-City Test Flight in Slovakia
A flying car completed a landmark test flight on June 28, between the cities of Nitra and Bratislava in Slovakia. AirCar, described as a “dual-mode car-aircraft vehicle” by its creators Klein Vision, took off from the city of Nitra and completed a 35-minute flight. After landing, the vehicle was “transformed” into a car and driven to downtown Bratislava. Klein Vision said their flight cut the typical travel time between the two cities “by a factor of two.” “This flight starts a new era of dual transportation vehicles. It opens a new category of transportation and returns the freedom originally attributed to cars back to the individual … It has turned science fiction into a reality,” the vehicle’s inventor, Prof Stefan Klein, said after driving the AirCar into Bratislava. You’ll Not See a Better Score in Any Sport Than This From an Irish Hurling Game
A player of one of Ireland’s traditional sports, hurling, overcame cramp to dive through the air to catch a ball before scoring, from a kneeling position, in what was described as “the score of the game, of the week, month, and year” on June 29. James Duggan was playing for the county of Laois (pronounced “leash”) in an under-20s championship game against midlands rivals Westmeath that had gone to extra-time. Hurling is played with a stick, called a hurley, and a ball, called a sliotar. Scores are achieved in two ways: by hitting the sliotar between two posts and over a crossbar for a point; or by hitting it under the crossbar, into a net that is tended by a goalkeeper, for a goal. A goal is worth three points. Limping as his leg cramped up, Duggan had just struck the sliotar wide. His body might have been giving up, but his mind was still sharp, as he spotted the goalkeeper attempting a short puck-out. He dived, caught the ball, and then, from a kneeling position, struck it over the bar. “He didn’t do that – he did!” cried one of the commentators of the game watching Duggan’s feat. “Un-be-lievable. Mother of god,” said the other commentator. “That’s impossible!” the first added. “He was on the ground, cramping. He couldn’t stand up. The ball was pucked out, and somehow he leapt into the air, fell back on to the ground, and in a seated [sic] position, struck the ball over the bar.” Laois went on to win the game, with four goals and 33 points (for a 45-point total) to Westmeath’s 4-27 (39 points). Almost half of the Australian population in lockdown
Almost half of Australia is back in lockdown as multiple COVID outbreaks grow across the country. Queensland has become the latest state to impose stay at home orders on 4 million residents in the South East, Townsville, Palm Island and Magnetic Island until Friday. The move follows WA's announcement as the Perth and Peel regions go into day two of their four-day lockdown. Nearly 6 million people in Sydney and its surrounding regions are in the midst of a two week lockdown after the Delta strain led to 149 cases. Darwin and Palmerstone's measures have been extended until Friday after 10 cases were linked to a gold mine cluster. The states and territories have shifted responsibility for the crisis to the Federal Government saying they will continue to impose closures and shut borders until the majority of the population is vaccinated.

‘I’m here to smash the narrative’ of the left on the Indigenous: Jacinta Price
Alice Springs Deputy Mayor Jacinta Price says she is here to "smash the narrative" of the left that say Indigenous Australians are "constantly victims" and those on the left are their "champions". The remarks come amid Ms Price unseating Senator Sam McMahon as the Country Liberal Party's top Senate candidate in the Northern Territory. Ms Price said the left "always push a particular narrative" and want Aboriginal people to "feel hard done by" so they can "point the finger" at who they think are the perpetrators and "claim to be our champions" when they are not. "Because to tell us that we're victims constantly has been removing our agency and the ability for us to understand that we can stand on our own two feet, we can achieve so much," she said. "The left also relies on an industry which has been heavily funded on the backs of the misery of Indigenous Australians and I'm here to say enough, we've had of it. "The ultimate freedom is responsibility is knowing you have freedom of choice. The left hate that because they want to control the narrative - well I'm here to smash the narrative."

Joe Biden more ‘focused on internal opposition’ than ‘external enemies’: Morrow
Sky News host James Morrow says a government and a president who treat all opposition as a threat will inevitably, eventually, head in the direction of "tyranny". His comments come after President Joe Biden made remarks in a media conference in which he said those who wish to "take on the government" with weapons might need "F-15s and maybe some nuclear weapons" to have any success. Mr Morrow said the president's remarks were directed at the "Capitol Hill protesters" who descended on Washington on January 6. "But the implication that Biden was making was much bigger than that. It was that anyone who was a gun owner even anyone who was a Trump supporter might be ready to feel the full force of the state," Mr Morrow said. "The president's take was both silly and wrong and betrays a real lack of understanding about how America and the American Constitution works. "The USA is a government that governs by the consent of the people - the people, not the government, are where government's power flows from." Mr Morrrow said he was not saying he believes the US government is "tyrannical" - although some governments can "act that way" sometimes. "But what I am saying is a government and a president who treats all opposition as a threat will inevitably, eventually, head in that direction," he said. "Personally, I'd prefer a US president who was focused on America's external enemies - not his internal opposition."

Ms Osmond told Sky News there also needs to be a “wider conversation” to give people a sense of what the future will look like, particularly in relation to how restrictions will be affected by vaccinations. “Does it matter what sort of vaccination you’ve had,” she said. “If you’ve been fully vaccinated do the border closures still apply to you, at least domestically? “Are there restrictions that won’t apply if you’re fully vaccinated or not? “We all know things are changing pretty quickly and we all have to be … agile now, but I do think that now is the time for the states to stop acting as separate principalities and come together.”

‘You lose your position if you teach political indoctrination in the classroom’: Latham
NSW One Nation leader Mark Latham says there has been "plenty of reviews" made by the state government into school staff engaging in "political indoctrination" in the classroom but still no one has been "sacked". "Plenty of reviews and counseling and cautions for teachers but nobody sacked," Mr Latham said. "This is the important thing, you need to send a message that teachers who engage in political content and political indoctrination in the classroom, it's completely unacceptable, it's outside the guidelines, the standards and policies of the NSW government. "So you lose your position. "So too anyone who's pushing gender fluidity, Safe Schools program – this sort of material which for very young students is a form of child abuse – they should be shown the door as well. "There's an unlimited list in our schools of teachers who have done the wrong thing but nobody loses their job."

Restaurant capacity has been halved and standing while drinking has been banned in pubs and clubs. Premier Steven Marshall also said, “we will be banning singing for the next 12 weeks in those high-density arrangements”. “There’s no doubt these new restrictions will be very frustrating, they’ll be very inconvenient, but the alternative is the potential for a full-scale lockdown.”

Death toll rises to 10 following Miami building collapse
First responders are continuing to search for survivors from last week’s Miami apartment building collapse as the death toll rises to 10 and more than 150 people remain unaccounted for. CNN reporter Isabel Rosales told Sky News the rescue operation was the “largest deployment of search and rescue crews in the state of Florida during non-hurricane times”. “They’re throwing everything at this. Sonar, cameras, listening devices, and they are delayering all of this debris,” she said. No official cause has been established for the collapse, but a team of federal agents have been deployed to investigate. A contributing factor may include the failure of waterproofing along the pool and the pool deck which was pointed out by a structural engineer in a 2018 report.

Report forecasts 40 years of deficits and dramatic fall in Australia’s fertility rate
The fifth Intergenerational Report set to be handed down by Treasurer Josh Frydenberg today forecasts deficits for the next 40 years and a dramatic fall in Australia’s fertility rate. The report forecasts what Australia will look like over the next four decades and is released every five years. For the first time in the report’s history there has been a downgrade to the population forecast - with the population predicted to reach 38.8 million by 2061. The figure is millions fewer than had been predicted five years ago and is due to the lower than expected fertility rate and the decrease in the number of migrants as a result of the international border closure.

Pandemic will have a ‘very significant impact’ on Australia going forward
Treasurer Josh Frydenberg says the pandemic will have a “very significant impact” on the nation going forward - ahead of the release of the fifth Intergenerational Report which forecasts deficits for the next 40 years. “Our population will be smaller than initially thought because of what the consequences of the pandemic has led to,” he said. “Namely the closed borders and the fact that migration has fallen, and population growth has fallen to its lowest level in 100 years. “We also have an aging population which is also going to put particular pressures on both the expenditure and the revenue side. “But when you look at our debt levels, they still remain low by international standards - about half of what it is in the United Kingdom and the United States and less than a third of what it is in Japan. “That being said, we continue to extol the importance of being fiscally disciplined. “What the report does show is that the economy continues to grow despite the challenges we face."

Barilaro reflects on COVID-19 policy ‘mistakes’
NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro has conceded his administration "could" have mandated the limousine driver at the centre of the latest COVID-19 outbreak to wear a mask. Mr Barilaro told Sky News Australia host Kieran Gilbert the NSW government would learn from "every mistake" made during the pandemic. "In hindsight there’s a lot of things we could have done differently, we could have managed Ruby Princess differently, we could have mandated the mask on that limousine driver," he said. "The reality is, I’m not going to blame the feds, there's been no playbook or rulebook over the past 18 months on how to manage this global pandemic. "We’ve done well, sometimes by luck and chance but every mistake you learn from." Mr Barilaro also told Sky News he was proud of the NSW government's "reputation" of keeping businesses open but argued the two- week sharp lockdown was the best decision for this outbreak. Millions of people in Greater Sydney, the Blue Mountains and the Central Coast have since been forced into a two-week lockdown. Residents are only allowed to leave home to shop for essential items, exercise, medical care or for compassionate reasons until July 9. The lockdown was imposed because health authorities believe the Delta variant of the virus has been spreading at a rate which is too fast to contain.

NSW Police Minister: Community must ‘relearn’ what’s required by public health orders
NSW Police Minister David Elliott says the community has to “relearn” what the public health orders require from them – with a number of infringements occurring over the last 24 hours. “It’s clear that the community is going to need to relearn what these public health orders do and what they require from the community,” he said. “It really is the nuts and bolts stuff that people really should be aware of given we went through this situation last year”. Mr Elliott told Sky News the most common complaints have been coming from people failing to comply with mask mandates in local shops. “It is compulsory for both the individual and the business to make sure the orders are complied with,” he said. “Businesses can get a fine of up to $55,000 so I don’t know why you’d risk it and allow people to come into your shop without wearing a mask. “These fines and this weekend is about reminding people that we’re unfortunately back in the situation which we found ourselves in last year and they have to comply with these regulations otherwise the lockdown order may well continue beyond Friday week."

Acidic tar pits affecting UK livelihoods
There are dozens of toxic and acidic pits near homes in many areas of the United Kingdom which are impacting the livelihoods of residents. An investigation has found local councils have officially recorded 34 acid tar lagoons - but the government lists only two in England. The pits were created when oil refineries dumped thousands of tonnes of toxic materials in the 1960s and 70s and contain extremely hazardous and corrosive liquids. However, one solution which has been proposed to clean up the toxic pits involves covering the tar with spent mushroom compost and planting willow trees on top to rid the areas of their dangerous acidity.

Gen Mark Milley Responds to Rep Gaetz on Critical Race Theory
Gen Mark Milley, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, spoke on critical race theory in response to questioning from Florida representatives during a House Armed Services Committee budget hearing in Washington on June 23. Milley, who was testifying alongside Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin at the hearing, was responding to Florida representatives Michael Waltz, a former Army Green Beret, and Matt Gaetz. “I do think it’s important, actually, for those of us in uniform to be open-minded and be widely read,” Gen Milley said of critical race theory. “And the United States Military Academy is a university. And it is important that we train and we understand – and I want to understand white rage. And I’m white …. So, what is it that caused thousands of people to assault this building and try to overturn the Constitution of the United States of America? What caused that? I want to find that out.” Gen Milley went on to say, “I’ve read Mao Zedong, I’ve read Karl Marx, I’ve read Lenin. That doesn’t make me a communist. So what is wrong with understanding? Having some situational understanding about the country for which we are here to defend? And I personally find it offensive that we are accusing the United States Military – our general officers, our commissioned and noncommissioned officers – of being ‘woke’ because we’re studying some theories that are out there.” Gaetz’s questions were also directed toward Austin, who responded, “I trust my leadership from top to bottom, that they will give me fair and balanced and unvarnished input.” During Gen Milley’s response, Gaetz was seen shaking his head and was criticized online for his reaction. Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry CEO Paul Guerra said while he understands the need for mask on public transport and while walking through offices, workers should not have to wear them while seated at desk because this will discourage them from returning to the office. Office capacity is set to increase to 75 per cent as of tonight but Mr Guerra said it would not make a difference if the mask measure remains in place. Victoria’s Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton defended the measure as an “insurance” policy against the spread of COVID-19.

MASK MANIA: ‘Instruments of fear being used at critical times’
Sky News host Alan Jones says "we have seen these instruments of fear being used at critical times in our lives" as confusion, fear, and anxiety force people to become increasingly reliant on the health messaging. "Well, is Daniel Andrews now running NSW," Mr Jones said. "I will talk in a moment about the issue of confusion and fear. Both of them are riding high since 4PM today, all sorts of restrictions have been in place, as you have heard, but you are entitled to be confused. "Could someone produce a piece of paper that validates these directives? Masks everywhere, including workplaces. "Then, if you live in the City of Sydney and the local Government areas of Waverley, Randwick, Canada Bay, Inner West, Bayside, and Woollahra – you can't travel out of metropolitan Sydney unless it is essential and Queensland, Victoria, WA and South Australia won't let you in. For how long? I wish I could tell you."

Sydney restrictions a ‘real hammer blow’ to businesses
The COVID restrictions announced for Sydney on Wednesday were a “real hammer blow” for business owners in the CBD, according to Business Sydney Acting Executive Director Damian Kelly. Premier Gladys Berejiklian announced a range of restrictions across Greater Sydney in a bid to prevent a lockdown after the Bondi cluster grew to 31 cases. “No doubt yesterday’s announcement was a real hammer blow for business owners in the Sydney CBD who have already been struggling,” Mr Kelly said. “And of course, Sydney’s been impacted so much by the closure of international borders. “But I keep saying Sydney business owners are resilient, they’ve been through this before”. Mr Kelly said the new restrictions would cause immediate damage to cost and revenue but would also impact confidence in the longer term. “Right at the moment its coast and revenue, because people are cancelling events … logistical things are a big issue right now, but of course the longer this goes on it impacts on confidence and it impacts of future bookings,” he said.

US to announce gun safety strategies
US President Joe Biden is set to announce his new gun crime prevention safety strategy aimed at tackling a crime surge. America is facing a spike in shooting across the country in major cities, prompting major action. The White House’s strategy includes stemming gun flow, investing in community violence intervention programs, and giving additional support to law enforcement. Many Republicans say the defund the police movement and lack of support has slashed morale in police departments and this has caused the rise in crime. Shootings are up 51 per cent in Los Angeles, 64 per cent in New York, and 126 per cent in Portland compared to this time last year.

Britney Spears Tells Atlantic City Audience She Has 102 Degree Fever During 2018 Concert (FILE)
A 2018 video of Britney Spears saying she had a 102 F fever during a show in Atlantic City has gone viral as Spears is scheduled to testify via Zoom in a Los Angeles court proceeding to address her father’s conservatorship of her finances and career. Footage captured by Zachary Gordon, who said he took it during Spears’s 2018 Piece of Me tour, shows Spears onstage. According to the New York Times, the footage echoes complaints Spears made about her performance obligations under the court-appointed conservatorship of her father, James P Spears. “I’m about to pass out, I’m sick,” Britney Spears says in the video. “I have actually an 102 degree fever right now.” Spears planned to appear in court to address her father’s conservatorship on June 23, with the media reporting the singer’s opposition to the conservatorship, which has seen Jamie Spears running her finances and career since 2008. Britney Spears to address court
Singer Britney Spears will be addressing a court regarding a controversial legal arrangement which has allowed her father Jamie to control her life, estate and career since 2008. Ms Spears will appear before the court via a video link with some speculating, she wishes to remove her father from the conservatorship to be replaced with someone she trusts more. In recent years a so-called "Free Britney" movement has been launched to end her father's control of her life, arguing she is being held against her will. They have pointed out since she is able to work, sell out huge concerts and record albums, she does not seem like someone who is infirm and would require the protection of the conservatorship. Ms Spears’ family and her father have argued the measures were been put in place to protect her from those who do not have her best interests at heart.

UK denies Russian account on alleged warship incident
Russia has released footage of an alleged incident with a British destroyer in the Black Sea. The country's defence ministry claims one of its warships fired warning shots and a warplane dropped bombs to force the ship out of territorial waters near Crimea. The footage appears to show four bombs being dropped to persuade the ship to change its course. Britain has denied the account, insisting its ship, HMS Defender, wasn't fired upon. Defence Secretary Ben Wallace says the Defender was travelling on the correct route - bypassing training 'exercises' in the area.

AstraZeneca use to be phased out by October
The federal government is now projecting the AstraZeneca vaccine will be phased out by the end of the year since it is expected all those 60 years and older will be fully vaccinated by then. The recent changes to the medical advice surrounding the AstraZeneca jab - due to blood clot concerns - means people aged 60 and older are now the only ones eligible to receive the vaccine. However, federal health authorities have said there is still a place for AstraZeneca in the national rollout and it will continue to be produced locally for those who request to receive it. A six-month vaccination rollout plan has been released which predicts 1.7 to 2.3 million doses of Pfizer will be available to the states and territories each week by the end of the year. The Moderna vaccine is also expected to be available for under 60s from September – depending on approval by the TGA.

US Senate to consider voting reforms
The United States Senate is expected to take a procedural vote to allow the Senate to hold debate on an expansive voter reform Bill. Democrats need the support of at least 10 Republicans to overcome a filibuster but the Bill is not expected to succeed. Supporters for the Bill say it is necessary due to restrictive voter laws in several Republican-led states. The legislation would block states requiring ID to vote, make election day a public holiday, and require 15 days of early voting.
