US done ‘more testing in eight days’ than South Korea did ‘in eight weeks’: Trump

US President Donald Trump has applauded the work of Congress and health officials for their efforts in combatting the COVID-19 outbreak saying the US had done "more testing in eight days" than was done in "eight weeks" in South Korea. "They have been working long hours - Republican and Democrats, the House and the Senate," President Trump said. New York health officials planned to collect plasma from people who have recovered after contracting the coronavirus and inject the antibody-rich fluid into patients battling COVID-19. "New York is definitely a hot spot - we're going to see those areas opening up," the President told press. "We can have large sections of the country open. I think it's very important we start moving on that." The intervention came as the number of confirmed cases in New York State surged to more than 25,000, with more than 14,700 cases in New York City and more than 210 deaths state-wide. The US as a whole had more than 52,000 confirmed cases and 677 deaths. Image: AP
