Following three RBA rate cuts this year and Labor urging the government to bring forward stage two of its tax cuts to boost consumer sentiment, pressure is mounting on the Government to do more to stimulate the economy. Speaking to Sky News, Treasurer Josh Frydenberg did not rule out bringing forward the second round of tax cuts, and said since coming into government, “we’ve seen 1.4 million new jobs being created” with “employment growth at two per cent”. “Yes, unemployment is at 5.3 per cent, but it was still 5.7 per cent when we came into government,” he said. With challenges across the economy ahead, Mr Frydenberg was confident about the “record number of Australians in work,” and said his government is creating “20,000 jobs on average each month”.
