Haze from Bushfires Turns Sunrise Over Sydney an Eerie Red

Sydney woke to an eerie red sunrise as bushfire smoke blanketed the Australian city and its famous harbour on November 21. Several major blazes were burning around New South Wales on Thursday morning, including the 164,000-hectare (405,250-acre) Gospers Mountain fire in Wollemi National Park, northwest of Sydney. Smoke from the fires pushed air-quality index readings to more than eight times hazardous levels in parts of the city, according to the state’s environmental authority. In this video, smoke blankets the view over the water from Shelly Headland Upper Lookout at Manly, on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.
