TWU wants rights for workers in gig economy

November 18, 2019. National Secretary Michael Kaine alongside Santosh Gupta, the husband of Amrita Gupta, speaks in Sydney as the Transport Workers’ Union launches an appeal against a previous Fair Work Commission decision that upheld the sacking of a driver who was allegedly sacked for delivering food ten minutes late. Mr Kaine says the union's appeal on behalf of the driver is about ending worker exploitation. "We're asking the commission to blow the lid on exploitation in this sector," Mr Kaine says. "The legal fiction that somehow workers who are delivering food on the back of their bikes or in the back of their cars somehow control their own business." (AAP Video/Michael Wade)
