The retail sector is hopeful consumers across Australia will spend around $2.5 billion during the Boxing Day sales. Many retailers opened their doors at 5am, with Boxing Day forecast to be the biggest trading day of the year. The Australian Retail Association's Russell Zimmerman told Sky News despite a sluggish economy, consumers are prepared to spend big on Boxing Day. "Australians loves sales, and they particularly love Boxing Day sales," he said. "I think there is enough in there to boost the economy and get the retailers over the line.
