US Studies Centre CEO Simon Jackman says the political element of George Floyd’s death is “extremely delicate” as Donald Trump responds to ongoing protests. Mr Jackman told Sky News public sentiment toward the President may begin to change among middle class voters. He said Mr Trump received a “tremendous battering” over his response to the coronavirus pandemic and "once this flips through to a prolonged episode of lawlessness, sympathies will start to change". “The American middle class who will decide this election, they decide every election, their sympathies will start to flip and that hunger for order on the streets will start to sneak in and start to become more politically salient and take over," he said. “Trump will not shy away from that opportunity – [it would] re-establish some political momentum for him because I think he’s been very much struggling with the coronavirus epidemic. “On the George Floyd matter, per say, [Trump] has said frankly I think a lot of the right things. “He from the very start has acknowledged the Floyd matter as an outrage.” Image: AP
