Dreamworld's owners have been forced to temporarily abandon construction on a new $32 million rollercoaster that was central to its recovery from the Thunder River Rapids ride tragedy. Construction was due to begin this month and employ more than 200 people. Theme parks – which were forced to close in March amid the coronavirus crisis – are losing between $10 to $15 million a month. Theme park owners are pleading with the state government to deliver on a $50 million rescue package which was announced for animal and theme park operators. The parks are due to reopen next Friday.
