A rescue operation has been launched for a mass beaching of more than 200 whales in Macquarie Harbour on Tasmania’s west coast, after the whales were caught on a sand bank on September 21. Officials from Tasmania’s Ocean Conservation Program said approximately 270 whales were stranded near Strahan. Members of the public were urged to stay away from the area to avoid interfering with the rescue effort. Credit: wes_rawprojects via Storyful
