Honduran Families Evacuate as Tropical Storm Iota Threatens Central America

Honduran authorities issued evacuation orders on Friday, November 13, in preparation for the arrival of Tropical Storm Iota after Hurricane Eta had devastated the country earlier this month, local reports said. People in regions including Santa Bárbara, Choloma, La Lima, and Chamelecón are expected to evacuate. Santa Bárbara lost entire villages, crops, drinking water systems, and bridges to Eta, according to local news reports. As of 4 pm on Friday, meteorologists believed Iota would become a hurricane as it approached Central America, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said in an advisory. The NHC warned that possible dangerous winds, storm surge, and rainfall may reach Central America on Sunday night or Monday. Credit: Lilian Caballero via Storyful
