‘The Right Thing To Do’: Iowa Nurse Becomes First in State to Receive COVID-19 Vaccine

A nurse in the emergency department at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics was the first in the state to receive a vaccine for COVID-19 on December 14. Footage shows David Conway, RN, receiving the vaccine on Monday after the first shipment of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine arrived to the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital in Iowa City. “It was fast, and painless, and the right thing to do. The vaccine is the right choice so we can finally get things back to normal,” Conway was heard saying in this video. On Monday, the first official day of vaccinations, more than 50 UI healthcare workers received the first of two doses of the vaccine, a statement said. Local reports said the vaccine would be distributed in three phases, with the entire community receiving the vaccine during phase three. Credit: University of Iowa Health Care via Storyful
