Dozens Arrested at New Year’s Eve Gatherings in Los Angeles County Over COVID-19 Restrictions Breaches

Over 90 arrests were made and hundreds more party-goers were warned on New Year’s Eve at mass gatherings prohibited under Los Angeles County’s Safer at Home order, according to the county’s sheriff’s department. Footage shared by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department shows a long line of attendees exiting party premises during the crackdown. The sheriff’s department’s COVID-19 Super-Spreader Task Force conducted operations at two locations in Los Angeles and one event in each of the cities of Hawthorne, Malibu, and Pomona, the department wrote in an Instagram post. Six guns were recovered and one adult was arrested for possession of narcotics and a loaded firearm, they said. The task force’s enforcement continued on New Year’s Day as a total of 20,414 new cases were reported that day, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.
