Freezing rain and sleet brought by an Arctic blast began sweeping over south-central Texas on February 11, causing dangerous travel conditions on icy roadways. In Georgetown, north of Austin, resident Scott McDowell found trouble when trying to clear his driveway, losing his footing and sliding down a few feet on the ice. The National Weather Service on Saturday said the “historic winter weather” would worsen in the coming days, tweeting: “The coldest temperatures since 1989 are forecast Monday and Tuesday mornings. Now is the time to prepare. Check frequently on those without heat. Protect plants and pipes. Provide warm shelter for pets.” Credit: Scott McDowell via Storyful
