Hundreds of vehicles were backed up along Highway 50 in California’s South Lake Tahoe area on Monday, August 30, after evacuations were ordered due to the imminent threat of the Caldor Fire. Timelapse video taken from a Madera County Sheriff’s Office vehicle shows “miles” of vehicles on eastbound lanes of the highway, about a mile from the Nevada state line. The fire, moving in a northeasterly direction toward South Lake Tahoe, had grown to more than 190,000 acres (298 sq. miles) and was threatening more than 33,000 structures, fire officials said.
