At least three people were injured after an accidental firearm discharge caused panic at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in Georgia on Saturday, November 20, Atlanta police confirmed. A passenger discharged a firearm when attempting to grab it out of a compartment during a bag search for a prohibited item and then “fled the area, running out of the airport exit,” the Transportation Security Administration said in a press release. Atlanta police said a suspect had been identified. Three people sustained non life-threatening injuries, including one who suffered a fall in a different area in the airport and two others who reported shortness of breath, police said. Officials decided to initiate a ground stop to allow a police investigation, the TSA said. The Atlanta Police Department issued an all-clear at 3:20 pm local time when passengers began the re-screening process.
