Sky News Political Andrew Clennell says the Prime Minister looks set to travel to the US next month to announce the AUKUS nuclear submarines plan with the US President and his British counterpart. “A report on the Bloomberg News Wire service revealed the plan on Friday,” Mr Clennell said. “There was also speculation over the weekend that before acquiring a fleet of nuclear submarines from 2040 on, Australia may lease a 30-year-old nuclear submarine to start training submariners and bridge some of the gap between Collins-class and the nuclear subs. “Neither the trip nor the plan to lease a sub have been denied to me, although as I understand it, the trip is not fully locked in as yet.”
