Israel Defence Forces have released a video claiming to show a tunnel used by Hamas underneath the Al-Shifa medical complex. The video claims to show a shaft on the grounds of the complex which goes 10 metres underground. After a cut the video shows a tunnel which the IDF says is 55 metres long and used by Hamas militants. Israel has repeatedly claimed Hamas is using the hospital as a command centre to justify attacks on or around the complex. Hamas has always denied the allegations and invited international agencies to investigate the facility.

A man who set light to elderly worshippers who had just left mosques in London and Birmingham has been convicted of two counts of attempted murder. Mohammed Abbkr was remanded in custody until later this month after being found guilty on Monday by majority 11-1 verdicts of trying to kill Hashi Odowa, 82, and Mohammed Rayaz, 70, in February and March this year. The Louisiana Representative garnered 220 votes, ending three weeks of the position’s vacancy following the ousting of former Speaker Kevin McCarthy. Mr Johnson was backed for the position by former president Donald Trump after serving as the vice chair of the House Republican Conference since 2021. “Turmoil and violence have rocked the Middle East and Eastern Europe,” Mr Johnson said. “The country demands strong leadership of this body, and we must not waver. “The first bill that I’m going to bring to this floor in just a little while will be in support of our dear friend, Israel, and we’re overdue in getting that done.”

Abandoned chick adopted by flamingos at zoo

A flamingo chick has been adopted by new parents after being abandoned as an egg. It first spent a month in an incubator where dedicated zookeepers could ensure the hatchling's survival. Whipsnade Zoo birdkeeper Emily Merrick-White said the team had rescued the abandoned egg and monitored it for 32 days at the zoo's specialist bird nursery, before transferring it to a flamingo nest where Florence and Freddie took the egg under their wing. After hatching on June 19, the flamingo family has been bonding at the conservation zoo, with both adoptive parents caring equally for the fluffy grey two-week-old.
