It is a “momentous day for Britain”, the chair of the independent Horizon compensation advisory board said after the Government’s announcement to bring in a law to exonerate Post Office branch managers convicted in the scandal. Speaking after a meeting of the board in Whitehall, Professor Christopher Hodges told reporters: “I think that this is a momentous day for Britain. “What strikes me is not just that it is important in relation to finally getting justice and fairness, and steps towards closure for all the victims, but also it strikes me that the British public have responded to this. And it says something deeply fundamental about British values that everyone knows this is not right.” He added: “This is quite a good day to be British.”
