Australians will bake in temperatures of up to 40 degrees this weekend. Sydney is expected to reach a scorching 34 degrees on Friday in the west and Brisbane will hit the low- to mid-30s. A summer blast is also forecast to sweep Queensland's south-east, where the mercury will rise 11 degrees above average in coming days. A total fire ban is also in place for much of the state's south east.
