The US President is defending his decision to withdraw troops from northern Syria to step aside for a Turkish military operation in the region. Kurdish-led forces have been a key American ally in Syria, where they helped push the Islamic State group to the edge of defeat. The Kurds have called the decision a "stab in the back" and believe the move will reverse years of gains on the front lines.
