Turkey is dismissing threats from the United States and is pressing ahead with plans to assemble troops along the country's border with Syria. US President Donald Trump announced he would not get in the way of a Turkish assault on Kurdish-backed Syrian troops, who've fought alongside Americans for several years. However, President Trump later walked-back his announcement and threatened to destroy Istanbul's economy if the attack went too far. Mr Trump said his decision to pull troops from Syria fulfilled a campaign promise to wind-up America's involvement in the Middle East. Image: AP
