Batemans Bay Business and Tourism Chamber Vice President Charles Stuart says businesses in his town on the south coast of New South Wales have lost as much as 90 per cent of their summer trade after the bushfires. Locals are running campaigns to try and return cash and flocks of people to the town, with Joel Ware uploading a video featuring residents singing and beckoning people back. Another initiative from Love the Bay offers gift cards that can only be spend in town. Mr Stuart said “it’s one way we see of getting cash back into the retail community — which is definitely needed”.
