New Zealand’s deputy prime minister says he is “happy” for the Serious Fraud Office to launch an investigation into a foundation linked to his party. The electoral commission last week determined the New Zealand First Foundation, linked to Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters’ party, had not properly declared political donations. The matter was referred to the Serious Fraud Office and on Tuesday confirmed it had commenced an investigation into the foundation. Mr Peters maintained his party always abided by the law and he was “happy for this inquiry to go ahead”. Image: AP
