High Court ‘convinced’ of miscarriage of justice in Pell case

The High Court of Australia’s “extraordinary” decision to quash Cardinal George Pell's convictions will be felt across the world, Sky News Political Reporter Annelise Neilsen says. The judgement, handed down on Tuesday, came a month after the Cardinal’s case was heard in the High Court. Ms Neilsen said the speed in which the judgement was turned around shows the court was “fairly convinced” a miscarriage of justice occurred in his previous hearings. “What is really notable is just how quickly they turned this around, this was only heard in the high court here last month. that is extraordinarily quick. and a unanimous decision at that,” she said. "That does show they were fairly convinced that there was that miscarriage of justice and when we look at the miscarriage of justice cases in Australia they are rare. "It is rare for any court to not uphold a jury verdict. They must have been very convinced of what they saw come out of that evidence."
