Former war correspondent Michael Ware says a New Yorker is dying roughly every two and a half minutes, but new modeling has given “some signs of hope”. New York recorded its deadliest day yesterday, with 731 new deaths bringing the city’s death toll to 3,200 and the state’s death toll to 5,500. Mr Ware said old modelling projected 200,000 Americans would die from the coronavirus, but new modelling scaled the projected number back to 81,000. He said old modelling presumed only 50 per cent of Americans would listen to the stay at home orders but 97 per cent of Americans were currently under the orders “and seem to be following them”.
