The British public shouldn’t be forced to foot the bill to help Virgin survive the coronavirus pandemic, according to media personality Katie Hopkins. Virgin Atlantic has asked the Johnson government for 500 million pounds of government-backed loans and credit guarantees as the airline struggles to cope in the wake of the COVID-19 health crisis. Virgin has grounded 85% of its aircraft fleet and put most staff on eight weeks’ unpaid leave along with cutting executive pay. Ms Hopkins told Sky News the British taxpayer is already struggling due to the "coronavirus panic" She said Mr Branson, who lives in the British Virgin Islands, should “sod off" instead of asking for taxpayer help. “Richard Branson has $4.1 billion and he does not pay any tax in the UK economy,” she said. "He also sued our National Health Service when he believed that he did not get awarded a contract he should of, and he got compensation from our NHS. “He is truly a dastardly individual.” Image: AP
