US President Donald Trump says his administration saved 2.2 million lives by choosing to shut down the country despite the economic fallout which saw more than six million Americans file for unemployment. Mr Trump said “it is an artificial closing, it is not like we have a massive recession or worse, it is artificial because we turned it off”. The US has provided some relief to citizens impacted by the crisis through a $2.2 trillion stimulus package and the government “will probably do more,” he said. “Because of a hidden enemy, we are saying don’t go to work and we will pay you. “Four weeks ago we had the greatest economy in the history of the world... almost 160 million jobs.” Image: AP
