These “thugs” who are defacing and destroying statues are determined to “rewrite history” to suit their own agenda, according to Sky News host James Morrow. Monuments to controversial colonial figures around the world have become the focus of renewed scrutiny after anti-racism protesters in the UK tore down a statue honouring a slave trader. Hundreds of people cheered as the bronze figure of Edward Colston was thrown into Bristol Harbour during Black Lives Matter demonstrations last weekend. Protesters also attacked Captain Cook statues in Australia, while in America, along with statues of Confederate leaders, others of explorer Christopher Columbus were torn down or effectively destroyed. Mr Morrow said these "vandals" who defaced a statue of Philadelphia abolitionist Baldwin, who was a champion of black rights during the 1800s. "This is cultural vandalism," he said.
