Sky News contributor Michael Ware says US President Donald Trump is “striking a stake into the heart of our democratic institutions”. The President received harsh criticism after he held up a bible outside St John’s Church in Washington following a speech where he threatened to invoke the Insurrection Act of 1805 amid nation-wide Black Lives Matter riots. Mr Ware told Sky News "civilian leadership of the military is a vital, essential part of any democracy”. “This is a president who through his actions right now in response to these protests, risked losing the faith of the one million odd troops, sailors and air force that he currently commands,” he said. He said President Trump's so-called photoshoot was remembered as a “church visit horror show”. Image: AP
