Prison Inmates Rush to Help Georgia Deputy Suffering Medical Emergency

Three inmates at a Gwinnett County jail in Georgia were commended by officials for coming to the aid of a deputy who suffered a medical emergency on duty. In a message shared to Facebook on July 29, the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office said: "The inmates noticed our deputy appeared to be feeling poorly as he conducted his security procedures in the housing unit. “Although they were locked in their cells, they kept an eye on him as he returned to his seat at the deputy desk, where he lost consciousness and fell onto the concrete floor, splitting his head open.” The inmates began pounding on their doors and shouting to arouse the deputy, who was able to unlock the cell doors and allow some inmates to rush to his aid. The inmates used the deputy’s phone and radio to call for assistance. The deputy was recovering in his home thanks to the inmates’ actions, the sheriff’s office said. CCTV footage and an audio recording released by officials demonstrate the incident, while an interview with the inmates was also released. Credit: Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office via Storyful
