Bipartisan talks in Taiwan could be a ‘waste of effort’

Curtin University political analyst Professor Joe Siracusa says he is unsure if a bipartisan visit to Taiwan is a “good use of time” and it may be a “waste of effort”. The delegation travelling to Taiwan will include former deputy prime minister Barnaby Joyce, Labor's Meryl Swanson and Libby Coker, and Coalition MPs Scott Buchholz, Terry Young and Gavin Pearce. “For those critics in China who want to beat up Australia, this plays right into their narrative,” Mr Siracusa told Sky News Australia. “For those who are smart enough to ignore it, to just let it happen without making a fuss, then that’s probably the better thing here.”
