As Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un prepare to meet for a second time, the North Korean leader ‘clearly has the upper hand’, according to the Lowy Institute’s Sam Roggeveen. The director of the think tank’s international security program says North Korea coming close to fielding an intercontinental ballistic missile has ‘changed things fundamentally’, with the US having to ask itself whether the defence of South Korea is important enough to risk an attack on an American city. Mr Roggeveen told Sky News it’s likely the US will ultimately have to settle for a ‘slow and symbolic’ denuclearisation process, and for the indefinite future the US will ‘have to live’ with a nuclear North Korea.
