Sky News host Rita Panahi says police officers in Victoria are being ‘let down’ by the courts, as well as their police command who have a ‘risk-minimisation obsession’. Ms Panahi says the recent attack on two police officers in Melbourne’s St Kilda is ‘not all that unusual’, with 3000 assaults on Victorian police officers in the last year. The police face ‘ever greater scrutiny’ with every action ‘micro-analysed’ by their superiors, Ms Panahi says, while those who assault officers receive ‘pitifully lenient’ sentences.
