Supporters of Spain’s Socialist Workers’ Party, or PSOE, celebrated at the party’s Madrid headquarters on April 28 after it won the most seats in the country’s third general election in four years. The PSOE had 123 seats, El Pais said, far more than any other party, but short of a majority in the 350-seat parliament. The left-wing party Unidas Podemos won 35 seats, and the far-right party Vox won 24. The results meant the PSOE would seek to lead a left-wing coalition in parliament, but support from some smaller parties, likely including Basque nationalists, would be needed.
