FULL INTERVIEW: Labor backbencher Ed Husic says there needs to be a ‘diversification of talent’ in Labor's leadership team in the wake of the party’s election result. Mr Husic prevented a factional brawl after he elected not to put himself forward for a shadow ministry position in order to allow NSW Senator Kristina Keneally to take his place. The NSW right faction is only entitled to six MPs on the Opposition frontbench. Mr Husic says he needed to ‘do the right thing’ to help unify the party in the wake of the shock election defeat. He told Sky News he plans to use his time on the backbench to listen to constituents to ascertain why Labor didn’t make inroads with western Sydney voters.
