Veterans’ Affairs advocate Glenn Kolomeitz says some defence spending is ‘nonsense’ and needs to be ‘diverted back into looking after our people when they come home’. The government this week announced a $3 billion investment in new cutting-edge equipment for Australia’s elite Special Forces. ‘We do need to spend money on operations, equipment and capabilities… but some of the spending on ships, aircraft, inquiries and projects is nonsense,’ he told Sky News. Following a round table hosted by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs Secretary, Mr Kolomeitz said he believed the department was ‘putting veterans back in veterans’ affairs’. Image: AP
