New South Wales Attorney General Mark Speakman believes it is "immoral to abort a baby" based on gender, but says he can't personally safeguard this. Speaking to Sky News, Mark Speakman said in his personal view "it would be immoral to abort a baby on the basis of gender selection" but said he could "probably not" do anything to safeguard this in the abortion bill. The legislation will allow abortion for any reason up to 22 weeks, including on the basis of gender selection. Mr Speakman also said amendments he and MP Rob Stokes are proposing will identify the late term abortion threshold as post 22 weeks. "The ammnedments we put up for discussion have been looking at that problem, in particular where late term abortions are performed...and the sorts of practitioners who perform late-term abortions." The New South Wales parliament continued to debate the abortion bill on Thursday.
