PM to raise trade concerns with Trump

Prime Minister Scott Morrison says he would like to see a trade agreement reached between the US and China “sooner rather than later because it does have a disruptive impact on confidence in the global economy”. Speaking to Sky News exclusively, Mr Morrison sympathised with Donald Trump’s position, saying “you can’t just brush it under the carpet and pretend all the issues that have led to the tensions in the first place all of a sudden aren’t there”. “The issues do have to be acknowledged, addressed and resolved otherwise any arrangement won’t be enduring, and we want to see an enduring outcome,” he said. Mr Morrison said he would feel no hesitation in discussing the ongoing trade war and its impact on Australia’s economy with Mr Trump. The prime minister is due to return to Australia on Wednesday following the G7 Summit in France, where trade tensions and global tensions dominated the agenda. Image: AP
