Qld aged care residents physically abused and chemically restrained: Royal commission

The Aged Care Royal Commission has heard elderly residents at the Earle Haven Retirement Village were physically abused and chemically restrained. About half of the elderly residents were physically restrained and about 71 per cent chemically restrained before the shutdown, which saw 69 residents forcibly evacuated from the facility. The Nerang nursing home made nation-wide news in July when it shutdown over a reported dispute between the owners and sub-contractors. The executive director of the commission described the details as extremely worrying and vowed to find out more information about the restraints. The Brisbane hearing is expected to wrap up on Friday. Image: News Corp Australia
