Former Senator Jim Molan says what Andrew Hastie wrote about the rise of China was “factually correct” but "some of the references he made to Stalin and Hitler, I would have avoided". Mr Hastie controversially compared the international approach to China with the world's failure to prevent the rise of Nazi Germany ahead of World War II. “I do believe we are in a 1938 situation because of the changing power relativities in the world, and we need to have a conversation about China, but we need to be very careful about what we do say,” Mr Molan told Sky News. The former politician said “we must welcome China and the rise of China, but we must welcome China from a position of strength”. “Not just military strength, financial and economic strength, but every other aspect of what this magnificent country is; that’s the strength that we must welcome China from,” he said.
