There are fears dozens of homes have been destroyed in the NSW towns of Balmoral and Buxton, as fire crews take advantage of cooler conditions to strengthen containment lines. NSW RFS boss Shane Fitzsimmons told reporters on Sunday Balmoral has been particularly hard hit, describing conditions on the ground as “devastating”. "I think I coined the phrase there’s ‘there’s not a lot left or there’s there’s not much left’ - and that’s that’s just really confronting to contemplate," Mr Fitzsimmons said. "Whether it’s Balmoral or Buxton... we are talking dozens of properties, dozens of buildings". The comments come as Prime Minister Scott Morrison has spent the day visiting NSW Rural Fire Service Headquarters, Picton Bowling Club and Wollondilly Emergency Control Centre - after arriving home from Hawaii on Saturday. The Prime Minister has apologised - admitting he caused a great deal of anxiety in Australia - by taking the holiday during the midst of the bushfire crisis.
