The High Court has unanimously ruled a warrant used by the Australian Federal Police to authorise a search of News Corp journalist Annika Smethurst was invalid and has been quashed. The AFP last year raided Ms Smethurst's Canberra home over stories she wrote detailing secret plans to expand the government’s domestic spying powers. In a unanimous decision handed down today, the warrant used by the AFP was deemed invalid as it did not contain a specific offence. However, an injunction requesting the return of the information collected by the AFP from Ms Smethurst was denied. Image: News Corp Australia
