California announced it would loan 500 ventilators to the national stockpile amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, with the governor’s office posting a video of workers preparing shipments on April 7 . The video shows California medical-assistance workers and other personnel packing ventilator parts and supplies. A worker can be seen writing on one box: “All NYC needs is love from California.” California Governor Gavin Newsom issued a press release on April 6 that said: “California is stepping up to help our fellow Americans in New York and across the country who are being impacted the hardest right now by the COVID-19 pandemic.” As of April 6, New York has the higher number of confirmed cases of COVID-19, nearly four times the number of California cases. Newsom’s ventilator loan followed moves by other West Coast lawmakers, including Governor Kate Brown of Oregon and Governor Jay Inslee of Washington state. While California is still preparing for a spike in COVID-19 cases, Newsom said: "I know that if the tables were turned and we were experiencing a hospital surge, other states would come to our aid and provide ventilators just as we are today.” Credit: Office of the Governor of California via Storyful
