The New Republic reporter Alex Shephard says New York residents are “feeling hopeful for the first time in several weeks”. “We’ve seen the surge of cases slow slightly to something that’s more manageable and I think social distancing rules by the governor and the mayor here are finally taking effect,” he said. While he said it was promising to see the curve start to flatten, Mr Shephard said the current state of affairs was grim. “We’re seeing mass graves dug right now and the sound of ambulances is the one constant sound from morning to night,” he said.
