‘Quality of racing is currently unmatched’: NSW Racing CEO

Racing New South Wales CEO Peter V’landys says “it’s really disappointing we can’t have the crowds because the quality of racing in the past two weeks has been unmatched”. Mr V’landys said the performance on the field was matched by that off-field. “I’m very proud because the industry has really risen to the occasion when we needed them the most,” he said. “We’ve proven we can do it and I think it’s a good example to other sports how you can do it with no risk at all to the community.” Mr V’landys said the racing industry “learnt a lot from equine influenza and we were able to implement it again through this crisis”. “We had an apprenticeship then and now we’ve really got the trade with this crisis,” he said. The NSW Racing CEO said he was hopeful racing could continue throughout the COVID-19 crisis but admitted he was “a realist”. “Things can change overnight, and if we get a positive case that could cause some grief,” he said. “But at the moment we’ve got to be positive and carry on.” Image: News Corp Australia
