‘Typical bear market movement’ despite 20 per cent rally

InvestSMART’s Evan Lucas expects the market to drop despite it rallying almost 20 per cent, mirroring the pattern of the global financial crisis. “[The market] rallied almost 20 per cent but that is a typical bear market movement, so I do expect it to fall further," Mr Lucas told Sky News. “Volatility doesn’t distinguish between direction, it doesn't matter if it’s going up or down. “When you’re seeing percentage movements per day, that is extreme and is not normal market trading. “We saw it several times during the GFC, in October 2008 we saw the market do that three times."
