The Conservative Political Action Conference’s Andrew Cooper says “the penny didn’t drop” until last year’s CPAC where he realised “just what sort of war that’s being waged against traditional conservatism”. “Those that want to honour the values of free speech and free markets,” Mr Cooper told Sky News. In 2019 CPAC 's inaugural Australian event received a lot of negative publicity and criticisms. It featured Brexit campaigner Nigel Farage and former prime minister Tony Abbott, but the presence of Raheem Kassam caused the most conflict. Labor called on the government to refuse him entry to Australia due to his history of anti-Islam rhetoric. “It’s a full court press, we’re under the pump,” Mr Cooper said. “I look at CPAC as a line in the sand and there are lots of reasons why we can’t have it this year. “But the more I look at what’s happening around the world and in Australia I think we must have something like CPAC. “Something like the thumbing of the nose at this left wing ideology that’s trying to close us all down.” Image: News Corp Australia
