Thick smoke rose from the Hog fire at Hog Flat Reservoir, west of Susanville, Lassen County, California, on July 24, as authorities continued to work to contain the blaze. This footage, taken from a property about 10 miles from the blaze, shows smoke billowing on the horizon. Lassen County officials expanded the mandatory evacuation area on Thursday, July 23, as the blaze burned over 9,540 acres and was about 38 percent contained. According to local fire officials, an evacuation center had been set up at the Lassen Community College. “I can see some flames from my house,” uploader Jennifer Felix told Storyful. “I live 10 miles away from the fire. My friend’s family got evacuated from their home. They have been staying at my home for 6 days going on a week. They live at Forest Estates in Susanville. It was 3 miles away from their home. Thankfully the firefighters held the line and the fire didn’t reach their community.” Lassen County officials were also battling the Gold fire threatening homes in the region.
