NASA is set to test a new asteroid defence system on Monday evening local time. The DART mission will smash into an asteroid in the world's first planetary defence test. The experiment aims to test whether deflecting or slowing down an asteroid on a potential collision course with earth may help to prevent a catastrophic impact.
