Thieves Steal Shark From San Antonio Aquarium Using Baby Carriage

Leon Valley and San Antonio police in Texas are looking for three people suspected of stealing a shark from the San Antonio Aquarium on Saturday afternoon, July 28, and wheeling it away in a baby carriage. The aquarium said the 3-foot horn shark was stolen from their tide pool exhibit during Shark Week. “The suspects staked out the pool for more than an hour to wait for this opportunity,” the aquarium said in a Facebook post. “Security footage indicated that the suspects brought their own net to capture the horn shark.” “The trio, with baby in arms, used the baby’s stroller and carried the baby while the shark rode in it,” it also said. Leon Valley police chief Joseph Salvaggio said one of the men grabbed the shark by its tail while the others wrapped it in a wet blanket and put it into a stroller. The suspects also went into a back room and put the shark into a San Antonio Aquarium bucket that had a bleach solution, said one of the men Jenny Spellman, the aquarium’s general manager, adding that the bleach might have shocked the shark’s system. Spellman also said the group attempted to pass the shark off as a baby. In a latest update on July 30, the aquarium said they were en route to get the shark. They later found the shark, known as Miss Helen, at “the suspect’s house”, Ammon Covino, founder of the aquarium, told Storyful. Credit: San Antonio Aquarium via Storyful
